Outstanding blind individuals honoured in Hanoi

As many as 48 outstanding blind people were honoured at the second National Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Vietnam Blind Association (VBA) which was held in Hanoi on September 8.

As many as 48 outstanding blind people were honoured at the second National Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Vietnam Blind Association (VBA) which was held in Hanoi on September 8.

The honoured individuals include swimmer Bui Thi Xuan from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue who won 32 medals at domestic and international competitions from 2002 to 2013; Nguyen Van Chung from Ha Tinh province who achieved excellent academic results; and businessman Doan Nghieu from Quang Nam province who has created jobs for 20 locals.

According to a report delivered at the event, the association has widely extended its operations across the country over the past five years, increasing the number of its branches in cities and provinces to 54 with 68,071 members.

The VBA’s branches have also helped generate stable jobs for more than 4,000 blind people during the period.

From now to 2020, the association will focus on strengthening its organisations and renovating its operations to support members in improving their lives.

On the occasion, ﷽the VBA was presented with the Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit for achievements in national consꦯtruction and defence movements from 2010-2014.-VNA
