Party chief hails Hanoi’s election preparations

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has commended Hanoi on its active and prompt preparations for the elections to the 13th National Assembly and the People’s Council for the 2011-2016 period scheduled for May 22.

Trong, who is also National Assembly Chairman and Chairman of theCentral Election Council, made the remark while inspecting the capitalcity’s preparations for the upcoming elections on April 18.

Headof the Hanoi NA deputies delegation and Chairwoman of the Hanoi ElectionCouncil (HEC) Ngo Thi Doan Thanh said that the HEC has issued plans toconduct the election early and made thorough preparations in terms ofsecurity and popularisation work as well as settlement of petitions andcomplaints.

Hanoi has 29 urban and suburban districts and 577wards and communes. It is entitled to elect 95 deputies to the MunicipalPeople’s Council, 1,140 deputies to the district and town People’sCouncil and 15,766 deputies to communal People’s Council. The city has4,553 election units and 4,766 polling stations, said Thanh.

Trongpraised Hanoi for ensuring political security and social order andsafety and for its dissemination of the significance of the electionsfor all strata of people to help them gain better understanding ofpeople-elected agencies.

Hanoi should create the most favourableconditions for all voters to exercise their right and obligation tovote, said the Party leader.

He emphasised the necessity forHanoi to ensure that the elections are conducted in a democratic,law-abiding safe and economical manner.

During the inspection tour, the Party leader also examined election preparations in Ly Thai To ward, Hoan Kiem district./.
