Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a high-ranking delegation left Hanoi on the night of July 5 for an official visit to the US from July 6-10.

The visit is made at the invitation of the US administration.

The Party leader is accompanied by Tong Thi Phong, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Le Thanh Hai, Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Pham Binh Minh, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; Hoang Binh Quan, Party Central Committee member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations; among others.

The delegation also includes representatives of war veterans, religious dignitaries, intellectuals and entrepreneurs.

This is the first time a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam has made a visit to the US.

The visit takes place at a time important to Vietnam-US relations, as the two countries are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

🌞During the visit, the two countries’ highest leaders will discuss future orientations for further developing their bilateral relations and deepening the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, with a focus on the fields of investment, trade expansion and facilitation, education-training, science-technology and defence-security.-VNA
