Party official calls for further support for blind community

Hanoi (VNA) – TheVietnam Fatherland Front and other socio-political organisations should promotecommunications work and mobilise resources to better support blind people,helping them improve their livelihoods and well integrate into society, asenior Party official said.

Attending a ceremony to mark50th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Blind Association (VBA) in Hanoi onApril 17, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s MassMobilisation Commission Truong Thi Mai expressed her hope that the PartyCommittees at all levels, local authorities, and competent sectors willcontinue their support for the blind community and raise public awareness oftheir capacity and contributions to society.

Relevant agencies should conducta study in order to adjust current policies and legal regulations relating topeople with disabilities, including the blind, she stressed, adding that blindpeople’s opinions on the issue must be listened to.

Mai took the occasion to appreciatethe VBA’s efforts to overcome challenges and contribute to the nationalconstruction and development cause over the past five decades.

She believed that theassociation will be a source of strength and encouragement for the blindcommunity so they can continue their dedication to the country.

According to VBA VicePresident Dinh Viet Anh, the association now has chapters in 56 cities andprovinces with 74,430 members. In particular, the National Fund for Employmenthave helped tens of thousands of VBA members secure stable jobs and escapepoverty over the past 30 years, he said.

On the occasion, the StatePresident presented a first-class Labour Order to the association for thesecond time, and second- and third-class Labour Orders to outstanding VBAmembers.
The AIC Group also gave out100 million VND (4,318 USD) and 1,000 smart phones with applications suitable fordeaf and blind people.–VNA
