Patient in Phu Yen tests positive for Zika

Phu Yen (VNA) – Duong Dinh Tinh from the central provi🙈nce of Phu🥀 Yen , has tested positive for Zika virus.

According to the provincial Department of Health, the 27-year-old patient had a fever of 38.5 Celsius Degrees and muscle and joint pains on June 27 and a red rash spread accross the body on June 30. The patient was then admitted to the General Hospital in Son Hoa mountainous district and had a blood sample test negative for dengue by the provincial Preventive Health Centre.
On July 7, the patient was discharged from hospital. However, the patient’s blood sample was still sent to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang city, in central coastal Khanh Hoa province. On July 28, the institute concluded the patient had contracted Zika virus.
After receiving the conclusion, the provincial health department set up a team to inspect the patient’s residence and 30 surrounding households in Tan Hoi hamlet, Son Hoa district. The patient’s family members gave blood and urine samples for testing. Health workers also sprayed chemicals to treat the outbreak.
On August 2, another inspection team was dispatched to the hamlet and discovered no suspected Zika cases.-VNA
