PM hopes for stronger Vietnam-Tanzania trade, investment ties

Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucvoiced his hope for stronger trade and investment ties between Vietnam andTanzania while receiving two ministers from the African country in Hanoi onAugust 2.

Talking to Minister for Industry, Trade andInvestment Charles J. Mwijage and Minister for Agriculture, Livestock andFisheries Charles J. Tizeba, he lauded Tanzania’s maintenance of an averageeconomic growth rate of over 6 percent during the past decade and wished thatthe country will successfully realise the targets set in its Vision 2025.

He thanked Tanzania for supporting Vietnam’sstruggle for national liberation in the past and facilitating investment andbusiness activities of Vietnamese firms, including Halotel – a joint venture ofVietnam’s military-run telecommunications group Viettel with Tanzania. 

Minister Mwijage said the two countries’cooperation is developing strongly as seen in economic ties andbusiness-to-business partnership.

He highly valued Vietnam’s expansion ofcooperation with African nations, including Tanzania – one of the fastestgrowing economies in Africa over the last decade thanks to strong economicreforms.

He called on Vietnamese enterprises to invest inapparel, footwear, vegetable, plant oil and cement production in his country’seconomic and industrial zones.

Congratulating Tanzania on its economicachievements, PM Phuc promised the Vietnamese Government will step up providingbusinesses with information about export processing and special economic zonesof Tanzania so that they can consider investment in agricultural and aquaticproduct processing, and electronic products, consumer goods, garment andfootwear there.

Vietnam is ready to supply goods with highquality and competitive prices for Tanzania to meet its demand, he noted.

To fuel bilateral trade and investmentrelations, he asked both sides to soon conclude negotiations for the signing ofa double-taxation avoidance agreement and another on investment encouragementand protection.

The PM asked the African nation to facilitatethe licensing of Vietnamese workers at Halotel while ensuring security andprotecting assets of Vietnamese firms in the country.

Vietnamese and Tanzanian businesses should alsoboost connectivity and trade activities to raise bilateral trade to 1 billionUSD in the near future, he added.-VNA
