PM meets Indian President on ASEAN – India summit sidelines

New Delhi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc met Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi on January 24, as partof his visit to attend the ASEAN – India Summit in India.
At the meeting, both leaders said they are pleased withrobust growth of Vietnam – India traditional ties and comprehensive cooperationsince the bilateral relationship was upgraded to a comprehensive strategicpartnership in September 2016.
They praised the organization of meaningful eventsthroughout the Vietnam – India friendship year 2017, which marked 45 years ofdiplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership between the twocountries. These events contributed to boosting public understanding on therelationship and bilateral collaboration across sectors, they said.
Lauding Vietnam’s coordination role in ASEAN – India ties, PresidentRam Nath Kovind stressed Vietnam is an important pillar in India's Act EastPolicy. He vowed to make stronger efforts in promoting the two countries’comprehensive strategic partnership based on outcomes of their 45-yeardiplomatic relations.
PM Phuc stated Vietnam’s consistent diplomatic policy alwaystreasures ties with traditional friends like India.
Both sides agreed to frequently organise high-ranking delegationvisits between their parties, governments and parliaments, and exchangesbetween localities and people. They said defence-security engagements will beboosted toward greater effectiveness, while economics and trade partnerships willbe promoted toward a bilateral trade goal of 15 billion USD in 20202. TheIndian side said it will continue supporting Vietnam in training high-qualityhuman resources and offering more development support packages and preferentialcredit to the country.

A seminar introducing cooperation potential between Vietnam and India in the domains of agriculture and processed food was organised on January 18 in Uttar Pradesh, India.
A collection of books featuring India, its country, people, history and culture as well as potential of cooperative ties with Vietnam debuted in Hanoi on January 19.

Highlighting the transformative potential of the draft law in revitalising Vietnam’s railway industry, Hoang Van Cuong, a deputy of Hanoi, expressed his support for Article 39, which empowers the Prime Minister to issue a list of railway-related goods and services to be assigned or ordered from domestic enterprises for production.
