Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with visiting General Secretary of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith in Hanoi onDecember 19.

The Lao Party and State leaderis in Vietnam for an official friendly visit from December 19-21 at theinvitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen PhuTrong and President Tran Dai Quang.

PM Phuc expressed joy at the successof the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Year 2017, saying that the Governments of bothcountries have guided their ministries, sectors, localities and businesses inimplementing Vietnam-Laos joint statements, agreements reached by their leaders,and cooperative pacts, programmes and plans, contributing to politicalstability, socio-economic development and international integration of eachcountry.

Party General Secretary andPresident of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith commended the two governments for theirclose coordination and effective work in assessing bilateral cooperation and addressingobstacles in the implementation of key cooperative projects as well as outstandingproblems in bilateral ties.

He urged the two governments tocontinue with their strong leadership of the implementation of bilateralagreements to foster the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

In particular, the Lao leader requestedthat Vietnam promote cooperation with Laos in agriculture, and expressed thanksto Vietnam for allowing land-locked Laos to use its Vung Ang Port for economicdevelopment.

In reply, PM Phuc affirmed thatthe Vietnamese Government will actively carry out bilateral agreements and takeeffective measures to remove obstacles in bilateral economic cooperation.

He took the occasion to thankthe Lao Party and State for their sympathy and timely support for flood andstorm victims in Vietnam’s central localities.-VNA
