PM urges Carlsberg to expand investment in Vietnam

Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked Danish beer maker Carlsberg to expand itsinvestment in Vietnam during a reception in Hanoi on September 12 for CarlsbergCEO Cees‘t Hart.

The PM suggested Carlsbergincrease production to the full designed capacity at its plant in Phu Bai, in thecentral province of Thua Thien-Hue.

He said Vietnam is accelerating thesigning of the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UVFTA), which willopen up favourable conditions for enterprises of both sides, including thosefrom Denmark.

The government leader added thatVietnam is stepping up the equitisation and divestment in State-ownedenterprises in line with the principles of the market economy, transparency,and openness, which he said, will offer opportunities to foreign investors,including Carlsberg.

With the beer-maker’s interest instate capital divestment at Hanoi Beer Alcohol and Beverage JSC (Habeco), thePM proposed that both sides soon discuss and deal with existing problems toaccelerate the share purchase and strategic cooperation contract.

PM Phuc welcomed Hart’sattendance at the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018 and stressed that Vietnamis promoting cooperation with Denmark in various spheres, especially economyand businesses like Carlsberg play an important role in economic cooperationbetween the two countries.

Hart said Carlsberg has beenpresent in Vietnam since 2007 and has already invested in several beer brandsin the country.

He said Carlsberg is keen onexpanding operations in Vietnam and wants to invest more in Habeco afterbecoming its strategic investor since 2008.

Carlsberg has worked with theMinistry of Industry and Trade and relevant agencies of Vietnam to speed up theprocess, he said, hoping that its business operations in Vietnam will becomemore and more effective.–VNA
