As an active and responsible member of the United Nation (UN), Vietnamwill do its utmost in joining the UN’s peacekeeping missions ,Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said.
He made the affirmationduring his May 27 reception for visiting UN Under-Secretary Generalfor Field Support Ameerah Haq in Hanoi, during which he emphasisedthe increasingly important role played by the UN in maintaining securityand peace in the world.
Briefing the guest on the currenttensions in the East Sea, the host also thanked UN Secretary General BanKi-moon for expressing his idea over the issue. He also called onthe UN to continue raising its voice and action to ensure peace andstability in the region.
For her part, Haq welcomedVietnam’s establishment of a peace-keeping centre and its dispatch oftwo officers to take part in the UN’s South Sudan mission, saying thatthis marks the first progress of cooperation between Vietnam and the UNin promoting an agenda on peace and security in the world.
Shesaid the UN highly appreciates Vietnam’s contributions in this period,when the peace-keeping operations are becoming more and more complex,affirming that her agency will work to ensure safety for the twoVietnamese officers.
Following China’s act of placing itsoil rig in Vietnam’s waters, Ban Ki-moon has made statement on theissue, during which he stressed that it is necessary to use peacefulmeasures on the basis of respect to international law to solve theissue, Haq said.
She also vowed to convey PM Dung’s appeal to Ban Ki-moon to continue taking practical actions in the issue.-VNA
