Political parties in Sri Lanka praise Vietnam's development achievements

Representatives from political parties in Sri Lanka have commended Vietnam's development achievements under the leadership of Communist Party of Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – Representatives from political parties in Sri Lanka commended ಌVietnam's development achievements during a ceremony held in Colombo on February 3 to mark the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) (February 3, 1930-2025).

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam highlighted significant historical milestones and notable achievements of the CPV over the past 95 years. She affirmed the Party's historical role as the leader and organiser of all victories of the Vietnamese revolution in the struggle for national liberation and reunification in the past and national construction, defence, and economic reform and development today. The diplomat also emphasised the support from international friends, including Sri Lanka, for the CPV and its founder, President Ho Chi Minh.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka G. Weerasinghe extended congratulations to the CPV, highlighting important milestones in the Party's development since its founding 95 years ago. He praised the CPV's proactive role and wise strategic direction in the struggle for national independence, the liberation of the South and reunification, as well as current national development. G. Weerasinghe also lauded President Ho Chi Minh as a great patriot and a hero of national liberation of the world. G. Weerasinghe noted that as a member of the ASEAN - the most dynamically developing economic region in the world - Vietnam is an important economic partner of neighbouring countries and others in the region, serving as a source of inspiration and encouragement for many other developing nations, including Sri Lanka.
On behalf of the People's Liberation Front (Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna - JVP), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra highlighted Vietnam's development achievements under the CPV’s leadership in recent years. He emphasised that the CPV’s steadfast and sound leadership is a crucial factor in the struggle for national liberation and reunification of Vietnam, as well as in its current economic development and poverty reduction efforts. He also acknowledged Vietnam's important role in shaping a new global diplomatic landscape, especially following the national liberation revolution, which has created opportunities for expanding cooperation with many countries worldwide./.
