Hanoi (VNA) – The Political Bureau held a national conference in Hanoi on February 2 on preparatio𒀰ns for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils in the 2016-2021 period.

The large-scale conference aimed to carry out the Party’s and State’s documents and plans, and increase public awareness of the importance of the Party’s regulations and the State’s laws related to the election work, and of the position and role of the legislative body and People’s Councils.
Speaking at the event, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that the election will be an important political event and offer a chance for people from all walks of life to exercise their right to select outstanding competent individuals to represent them at the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels. It will also help build, consolidate and perfect a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people and for the people.
He asked Party organisations, agencies and other organisations involved to steer the implementation of the 12 th National Party Congress’s Resolution, the socio-economic development tasks for 2016, the 2016-2020 socio-economic development plan, as well as speed up preparation work to make the May election a success. Meanwhile, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung affirmed that the outcomes of the election will contribute to promoting democracy, building up national unity, stepping up the implementation of targets and tasks for the country’s comprehensive reform, and nation-building and safeguarding. The top legislator, who is also Chairman of the National Election Council (NEC), requested the NA Standing Committee, the NEC, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and localities to coordinate closely to complete election-related works on schedule, including the introduction and selection of candidates, establishment of election organisations at the local level, and communication activities.-VNA
