Da Nang (VNA) – President Nguyen XuanPhuc visited and presented Lunar New Year (Tet) gifts to poor households and workers hitby COVID-19 and Agent Orange/dioxin in the central city of Da Nang on January16.

On the occasion, he asked the municipalauthorities to continue reviewing the list of residents in need of support aheadof the ♔Lunar New Year festival, especially disadvantaged, policy beneficiaryfamilies and lonely old-age persons, to ensure that they enjoy a safe and happyholiday.

He also wished that the municipal PartyOrganisation, authorities and people would continue striving to score moreachievements in various areas.

Over the past years, Da Nang has pooled all possibleresources to help residents escape poverty sustainably. Its poverty reductionprogramme for the 2016-2020 period met targets two years ahead of schedule. Thecity is now home to 12,036 poor and 5,111 near-poor households under new criteria.

The cityhas earmarked over 72.5 billion VND (3.15 million USD) in support of 120,289 localhouseholds and residents for Tet.
