President requests utmost effort to ensure national security

Hanoi (VNA) – President Truong Tan Sang has requested public security forces to mobilise all its strength to safeguard natio🅠na🥀l independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity while maintaining political stability and peaceful environment for national development.
Speaking at the 71st National Public Security Congress which opened in Hanoi on December 29, the President said in order to fulfil the tasks, the forces should strengthen its Party organisations and build a contingent of unblemished and competent officers.
He urged the sector to keep close watch of the situation and give timely advice to the Party and State on polices and measures to protect national interestss and security, ensure social order and safety during the country’s important political events, and prevent and vanquish conspiracies of hostile forces against the nation.
President Sang also called for expanding cooperation with foreign security agencies and international organizations to prevent and combat crimes in line with the Party and State’s foreign policy.
During the congress, participants discussed main solutions to ensure security and safety for a number of upcoming key political events, including the 12 th National Party Congress and the elections of the 14 th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for 2016-2021 tenure.
They also debated policies and measures to ensure national security and social order aiming to serve the country’s international integration process, especially in the context that an ASEAN Community is formed and Vietnam’s participation in free trade agreements .
In his report, Senior Lieutenant General Dang Van Hieu, Party Central Committee member and Permanent Vice Minister of Public Security stated that the public security force well fulfill its advisory role and coordinated with relevant ministries, sectors, and localities to ensure national security and social order.
The rate of investigation and discovery of social order-related crimes reached 77.12 percent, 7.12 percent higher than that set by the NA and up 1.29 percent against that in 2014, he cited.
One of the most outstanding achievements in 2015 was the improvement of traffic safety with reductions seen in the number of accidents and fatalities.
At the event, the Central Public Security Party Organisation defined the sector’s major objectives in 2016, focusing on maintaining political stability for national socio-economic development and integration, preventing terrorisms and sabotage activities and ensuring safety during political, cultural and foreign events in the country, curbing the increase of crimes, and further improving traffic safety and fire prevention.-VNA
