Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc met with leaders of press agencies in Hanoi on June 18, asking pressoutlets to report more on business climate improvement efforts.

Participants in the meeting included Chairman ofthe Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) and Editor-in-chief of Nhan dan(People) newspaper Thuan Huu, Minister of Information and Communications TruongMinh Tuan, General Director of the Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Duc Loi andGeneral Director of the Voice of Vietnam Nguyen The Ky.

The event, held on the threshold of VietnamRevolutionary Press Day (June 21), was also attended by representatives ofmajor businesses.

PM Phuc lauded the contributions to nationaldevelopment from the VJA and reporters and editors of more than 800 pressagencies nationwide.

He affirmed that the Party and the State attachimportance to the role of the press and provide favourable conditions for themto work.

He asked press outlets to report more onbusiness climate improvement, encourage the development of businesses andpublish economists’ analyses of the socio-economic situation, thus helpingenterprises make good business decisions.

The press and the business community should joinhands to fight negative phenomena, interest groups, corruption andwastefulness, the PM added, voicing hope that they will be “companions” in theintegration process.

The Government leader emphasised that the pressplays a leading role in combating hostile forces, protecting the country’ssovereignty and territory and refuting slander.

At the meeting, VJA Chairman Thuan Huu briefedthe PM about his association’s activities, adding that APEC Vietnam 2017 is achance for the press to help domestic firms connect with Asia-Pacificbusinesses.

Representatives of enterprises also expressedtheir desire to partner with press agencies in production and businessactivities, social work and entrepreneurship promotion. They also asked thepress to listen to their opinions, help them build brands and work with theGovernment to create a healthy business environment.-VNA
