Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Sustainable Agriculture TransformationProject (VnSAT) has become a success model in the agricultural sector afternearly seven years of implementation, according to the Ministry of Agricultureand Rural Development.
The project has over that period of time benefited 19,200 cooperatives and cooperative unions, 16,000 businesses andover 16 million households, equivalent to 62.9 percent of the nationalpopulation.
It has provided training for rice growers in eightMekong Delta provinces and coffee cultivators nationwide, and supported the construction and upgrading ofabout 876km of rural roads, 26km of canals, and 47km of electricity line for 72electric pumping and 73 transformer stations.
In addition, about 105 million USD, equal to 100 percent ofcredit capital, has been completely allocated to farmers.
Le Van Hien, head of the Management Board of Agricultural Projects, said the VnSAT project has had a strong effect on reviewing policies and effectivelyimplementing the agricultural restructuring.
Thanks to the project, rice and coffee growers have enjoyedan additional profit of 1.33 trillion VND (57.3 million USD) and 476 billionVND each crop, respectively.
Infrastructure serving processing and post-harvest preservation hasimproved, and the quality of agricultural products and farmers’ income haveincreased as well./.
