Quang Nam (VNA) – The central province of Quang Nam has been seen a🐠s a green tourist destination in the region and the world, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism♌ Nguyen Ba Son said on June 6.
Speaking at a tourism workshop in UNESCO-recognised Hoi An city, Son said that in 2021, Quang Nam is the first locality in Vietnam to issue a set of green tourism criteria, based on the results of research cooperation with domestic and foreign experts, along with technical and financial support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
After nearly five years of implementation, Quang Nam has gradually affirmed its position as a green tourism destination in the region and globally. This success is demonstrated through ASEAN tourism awards, green tourism certification from Travelife, the recognition of the World Tourism Organisation for Tra Que vegetable village. Moreover, many destinations and communities have been honoured with prestigious domestic and international awards.
Son said the results were attributable to the effective coordination between departments, agencies, and localities, especially the active support and companionship from the SECO and the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Project in Vietnam (ST4SD). Through the project, Quang Nam has completed and applied seven sets of green tourism criteria for accommodation, travel, sightseeing, community tourism and catering services.
To date, 33 enterprises have been certified by the provincial People's Committee for green tourism. Green tourism models have contributed to shaping the brand "Quang Nam - Green tourism destination", contributing to raising awareness, creating a ripple effect among the business community, people and tourists in conserving resources and sustainable development.
Project Team Lead Olivier Messmer said that the workshop aimed to share Swiss experiences and initiatives that can be applied to Quang Nam; management experience and participation of stakeholders through the Tra Que vegetable village sustainable tourism model, along with the possibility of replicating this model on a large scale.
