The National Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology on June 12 confirmedthat Park Soon Hum, a Republic of Korea national dead in centralThanh Hoa province on June 10, was negative to the Middle EastRespiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
According toHa Dinh Ngu, Director of Thanh Hoa Preventive Medicine Centre, the64-year-old man, entered Vietnam as part of a 15-member delegationof RoK experts working for the ChoSuk Company in Hai Yen district, TinhGia district.
He showed symptoms of fever, cough and joint pain on June 6 until he was found dead in his private room on late June 10.
Right after getting the information, the provincial Preventive MedicineCentre and relevant agencies reported the case to the Health Ministryand took medical sample to test in the National Institute for Hygieneand Epidemiology in Hanoi .
On June 11, the HealthMinistry also sent two teams to Thanh Hoa to gather medical samples fromthose who have direct contact with Park in the ChoSuk Company as wellas RoK nationals entering Vietnam less than 14 days.
Besides, the Thanh Hoa Preventive Medicine Centre also collaborated withthe Nghi Son Economic Zone to give health supervision to all peoplewith high risk of infection, while disinfecting the area surroundingPark’s living place.
So far, no MERS-CoV case has been reported in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the RoK reported a death from MERS-CoV on early June 13,bringing the total numbers of deaths in the current outbreak to 14. Onlate June 12, two others were confirmed dead from the deadly virus.-VNA
