Ca Mau (VNA) – The Government has approved a project on constructing sea dikes worth 1.3 trillion VNꦗD (58.5 million USD) to tackle climate change in the southernmost province ♓of Ca Mau.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, the project will construct a sea dike system along the eastern coast in Ca Mau, plant protective forests and resettle residents.
The East sea dike surrounds 130,000 hectares of production land and 260,000 households in the province. Ca Mau is the only province in Vietnam surrounded by the sea on two sides, with 254 km of coastline.
The province loses around 100ha of coastal forest each year due to erosion. The loss of forest again leads to further erosion of land. Vietnam is one of the five countries in the world most vulnerable to climate change and its Mekong Delta region, Vietnam’s rice granary, is among the three hardest hit deltas in the world.-VNA
