Seminar seeks promoting private sector’s involvement in HIV combat

The Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) under the Health Ministry, the US Embassy and several international organisations held a seminar in Hanoi on August 30 to discuss the private sector’s participation in Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention and control programme.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Administrationof HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) under the Health Ministry, the US Embassy andseveral international organisations held a seminar in Hanoi on August 30 todiscuss the private sector’s participation in Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention andcontrol programme.

A majority of opinions shared the view that authorities’ management is a keyfactor to promote private involvement in the work.

VAAC Director Nguyen Hoang Long highlighted the need to create favourableconditions for private health care establishments to provide HIV/AIDSprevention and control services, partly by issuing specific financialcooperation mechanism to attract them.

He said the private sector also needs to stay ready to join the effort withoutpaying attention to profit.

Since 2014, the Health Ministry, VAAC and the Healthy Markets project havelaunched activities to develop goods and services regarding HIV combat.

Over 50 social enterprises, community organisations and private clinics haveoffered new choices to meet demand of HIV victims.

Since 2015, more than 140,000 people have had HIV tests via communityorganisations and social businesses, most of them took first tests with highHIV-positive rate.

Since 2016, eight private clinics have been set up to meet demand of patientsaffected by the virus.-VNA

♒ Sharp tobacco tax hike urged to safeguard youths, community health

A 2023 report by the Vietnam Health Economics Association estimated that the total cost of tobacco-related healthcare and economic losses reached 108 trillion VND (4.14 billion USD) annually – equivalent to 1.14% of GDP and five times higher than the budget revenue generated by the tobacco industry.

꧅ Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
