Senegal holds official welcome ceremony for Vietnam’s top legislator
An official welcome ceremony was held in Dakar on the morning of July 23 for visiting Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-level Vietnamese delegation by President of the Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye.

Dakar (VNA) – President of the Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye hosted an official welcome ceremony for visiting Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-level Vietnamese delegation in Dakar on the morning of July 23.
A military band played the national anthems of both countries, followed by the two parliamentary leaders reviewing the guard of honour. Immediately after the welcome ceremony, NA Chairman Man held a meeting with the Senegalese NA President.

This is the first official visit to Senegal by a key Vietnamese leader since the establishment of diplomatic ties nearly six decades ago.
Parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Senegal has primarily taken place through multilateral frameworks such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), as well as at multilateral conferences hosted by the Vietnamese NA. The First Vice-President of the Senegalese NA attended the APF Executive Committee meeting in Vietnam’s Can Tho city in January.
ౠ NA Chairman Man’s current visit holds special significance in strengthening political trust, deepening friendship, providing momentum for multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, including inter-parliamentary ties, and creating legal frameworks for enhanced collaboration between the two governments and businesses in the time to come./.
At the invitation of El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Senegal, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man is paying an official visit to Senegal from July 22 to 24, 2025. This is the highest-level visit ever between the two countries in over 55 years of diplomatic ties, and is expected to mark a turning point, opening up new prospects for bilateral cooperation.
Samba Dang, seventh Vice President of Senegal’s National Assembly, has highlighted the historic, cultural, and strategic foundations of the Vietnam–Senegal partnership in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency on the thresholds of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s official visit to Senegal.
Addressing the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting a large number of Vietnamese living and working in the RoK, acknowledging and appreciating their efforts in contributing to the growing Vietnam–RoK partnership.
He also welcomed the “Vietnam Private Sector Panorama” as a platform for dialogue, awareness-raising, and inspiring a wealth-creation movement, emphasising that it must deliver tangible results.
During a meeting on August 10 in Seoul with 100 representatives from the RoK’s intellectuals, associations, people’s organisations, businesses, and non-governmental organisations operating in Vietnam, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his gratitude to Korean friendship, economic, cultural associations, universities, research institutes, individuals, and NGOs for their significant contributions to nurturing the Vietnam–RoK relationship.

The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee is scheduled to convene its 48th session on August 11-13, with August 14-15 set as a backup date, according to the NA Office.
