Seventh phase of Vietnam – Japan Joint Initiative launched

Hanoi (VNA) –
The seventhphase of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative was launched in Hanoi on July 31,covering some matters left by the previous phase and new contents.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning andInvestment, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam-Japan EconomicCommittee under the Japan BusinessFederation (Keidanren) jointly held a meeting to launch the phase.

The seventh phase, to last from August2018 till the end of 2019, will deal with ten items, with nine agreed by thetwo sides during the meeting.

The Japanese side has made 65recommendations regarding regulations on investment in Vietnam for foreigninvestors as prescribed in theInvestment Law, the Law on Enterprises, the Land Law and other relevant laws.  

The recommendations also cover thereform of State enterprises and the stock market, the intensification ofindustrialisation with international competitiveness, labour and wage, and the policyframework on Public-Private Partnership (PPP), among others.

There will be three meetings which arescheduled for late 2018, mid-2019 and late 2019 to review the implementation ofthe phase.

A memorandum ofunderstanding to this effect was signed at the meeting.

The Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative was launched inApril 2003 as a result of special cooperation mechanism between the Vietnameseand Japanese Governments.

It serves as a policy dialogue forum between Japanese investors and relevant Vietnameseministries and agencies, where proposalshave been made to help competent Vietnamese agencies fine-tune laws andpolicies.

Over the past sixphases, more than 470 action plans have been carried out.-VNA
