Short film highlights ongoing bear protection efforts
A short-film has been released by the Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) in an effort to raise public awareness of the mistreatment of bears and calling for the end of bear bile consumption.
Hanoi (VNA) – A short-film has beenreleased by the Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) in an effort to raise publicawareness of the mistreatment of bears and calling for the end of bear bileconsumption.
According to Vice Director of ENV Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, the film is part of acampaign run by her agency, the World Animal Protection organisation, and FOURPAWS Viet to stop the captivity of bears andprotect wild bears in Vietnam.
The film will be screened on national and local televisionchannels across the country. It will also be posted on EVN’s Youtube channel.
Since2005, the Vietnamese Government and non-governmental organisations operating inconservation and protection work have gained remarkable achievements in eliminatingthe captivity of bears. According to ENV, the number of bears in captivity in Vietnamsharply declined between 2005 and July 2018 from 4,300 to 780. They had beencaged to harvest their bile, a digestive fluid used in some traditional SoutheastAsian medicines. Bear bile farming was outlawed in the country in 1992, butowners were not forced to give up the bears they held, only serving to prolongthe harmful practice.
In 2017, the Government of Vietnam agreed a planwith the non-profit group Animals Asia to shut down all bear farms in thecountry and move all remaining captive bears to sanctuaries. –VNA
An Asiatic black bear owned by Tran Van Trach in Thai Nguyen city of northern Thai Nguyen province has been safely transferred to Ninh Binh Bear Sanctuary.
Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV) on August 27 said it has ended the operation of the last private bear bile farm in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang.
FOUR PAWS Viet on November 15 received an Asiatic black bear named Trang, the last bear kept in private farm in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, putting an end to bear bile farming in the province.

During his stay in China’s Guangzhou city from 1924 to 1927 to prepare for the establishment of a Communist Party to lead Vietnam’s revolution, President Ho Chi Minh founded “Thanh nien” newspaper and released its first issue on June 21, 1925.

In recent decades, Vietnam’s mainstream media has become a reliable and persuasive channel for showcasing the nation’s development policies and achievements, especially in economic matters, according to a senior assistant editor at the Times of India.
A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.

A master plan on implementation of recommendations accepted by Vietnam under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) took effect on June 17.
