Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove made an official State-level visit to Singapore from September 21-24 to consolidate the two countries’ partnership. During his first visit to the island country, the Australian Governor-General held talks with Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam to discuss bilateral collaboration in education, military and terrorism fight.
The Singaporean President said his country will handle entry formalities more quickly for Australian citizens after October 1, 2015, in line with the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed last June. He noted that the two sides have begun to implement some aspects of this agreement.
The Australian Governor-General also had a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during which they exchanged views on regional and global issues, especially those related to the recently-signed comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the two countries. As part of his four-day tour, Cosgrove visited the Australian community in the host country on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.-VNA
