Steering board set up to find boat capsize reasons

The Ministry of Transport said on August 8 that its minister has decided to establish a steering board to investigate reasons of a recent boat accident in Ho Chi Minh City and define the responsibility of individuals and organisations involved.
The Ministry of Transport said on August 8 that its minister has decidedto establish a steering board to investigate reasons of a recent boataccident in Ho Chi Minh City and define the responsibility ofindividuals and organisations involved.

Underthe decision, the board, headed by Transport Deputy Minister Nguyen VanCong, will also work with provincial and municipal authorities andrelevant agencies to give out measures to improve State management onensuring maritime transport safety.

The motorboat,owned by the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Coast Guard with registration numberH29-BP, capsized on August 2 evening amid strong winds and high wavesnear Can Gio district, claiming nine lives.

Theboat, which had a maximum capacity of 18, was reported to be carrying30 people at the time of the incident. All passengers were workers ofthe Oil Pipeline JSC.

On July 9, it was brought to the Vietnam-Czech Technology Joint Stock Company for routine maintenance.

Transport Minister Dinh La Thang has asked relevant agencies topromptly investigate the reasons as well as draw experience to preventsimilar accidents in the future.-VNA
