Nghe An (VNA) – Typhoon Doksuri, said to be the strongest in manyyears, claimed one life and injured another in the central province of Nghe An,according to preliminary statistics.

The dead was in Nghi Hai ward, Cua Lo town while the injured was in Ky Soncommune, Tan Ky district.

Preliminary statistics showed that as of 5:30pm on September 15, the storm blewaway roofs of at least 210 houses and four schools as well as inundated 510haof rice, 1,788ha of corn and vegetables, and 179ha of aquaculture farms in theprovince.

The heavy downpour raised water level of 307 out of 625dykes to their full while that of the remaining hit 80-90 percent. Severalwater reserves risk losing safety due to rising water level in Yen Thanh, ConCuong and Quynh Luu districts.

Also on September 15, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dungand Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong inspectedrecovery efforts in Ky Anh district, the hardest hit locality in the centralprovince of Ha Tinh.

Deputy PM Dung said priority must be given to medicine andfood to the people, helping them settle down their lives and restoreproduction.

By 5:00 pm on September 15, nearly 25,000 houses in Ky Anhwere unroofed while many public works such as schools, medical stations andcultural houses collapsed; 5,000ha of wooden and fruit trees fell down and150ha of aquaculture ponds and dykes were damaged.-VNA
