Thai investors to explore opportunities in Ho Chi Minh City

The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) is planning to take Thai investors to Vietnam with the objective of expanding investment opportunities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Director of the BOI’s ForeignInvestment Cooperation Office Wassana Mututanon added that the Thaidelegation will be meeting with executives from HCM City Chamber ofCommerce to discuss the general picture of Vietnam's economy toestablish an initial idea for Thai entrepreneurs who wish to invest inthe neighbouring country.

The Thailand Business Association(TBA) in Vietnam will also hold a seminar on investment opportunities inVietnam for Thai entrepreneurs. Furthermore, Thai investors will alsohave a chance to visit an industrial estate which is a Thai-Vietnamesejoint venture.

Wassana went on to explain that HCM City isVietnam’s commercial centre holding the highest number of foreigninvestments among Vietnamese cities. In 2010 alone, the city saw 252investment projects, worth altogether 1.89 billion USD. The cityattracts a large number of investments given that many industrial zonesare situated within the town. Moreover, the city has convenienttransportation routes to accommodate industries.

The upcomingfield trip to Vietnam is part of the BOI’s policy to promote Thai tradeand investment in neighbouring countries, such as Cambodia, Laos,Myanmar and, especially, Vietnam, which is both an important trade allyand rival of Thailand.-VNA
