Thai Nguyen focuses on socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas

Minister-Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Affairs Do Van Chien held a working session on March 18 with authorities in the northern province of Thai Nguyen to review local activities for its ethnic minority population in the 2016-2020 period and set out tasks for the time to come.

Thai Nguyen, (VNA) -Minister-Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Affairs Do Van Chienheld a working session on March 18 with authorities in the northern province ofThai Nguyen to review local activities for its ethnic minority population in the2016-2020 period and set out tasks for the time to come.

According to a report delivered at the working session, during 2016-2020, theprovince had 19 out of 63 extremely disadvantaged communes meeting goals set bythe national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction, with nolocalities in the province now living without electricity.
By the end of2020, 73 out of 113 mountainous and ethnic minority-inhabited communes had fulfillednew-style rural standards.

Speaking at the working session, Chien lauded theoutcomes, particularly the significant progress in poverty reduction in mountainousand ethnic minority-populated areas.

Highlighting the Party and State’s attention to theseareas in recent years and in the 2021-2030 period, the official said major investmentwill come and present a good opportunity for Thai Nguyen to promote itsscientific research and technology transfer, create sustainable livelihoods,and provide human resources training for ethnic minorities.

Thai Nguyen is home to45 ethnic minority groups./.
