Thai Nguyen seeks 2.6 billion USD in FDI

The northern province of Thai Nguyen has set a target of reaching 2.6 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2015, the Vietnam Economic News (VEN) reports.

The on-line newspaper quoted ThaiNguyen Department of Planning and Investment as saying that since thebeginning of 2015, the province has seen a four-fold increase in FDIcompared with same time last year, as it topped 917.4 million USD.

Inrecent years, Thai Nguyen has gained the trust of foreign investors dueto its efforts in improving the investment environment. The provincenow ranks 10th among the country's 63 provinces and cities in terms ofattracting FDI, the department said.

In 2014, Thai Nguyen rankedeighth among 63 provinces and cities nationwide, in terms of theprovincial competitiveness index (PCI). Many investors have praised theprovince's legal institutions and business promotion policies.

Thereport from the Ministry of Planning and Investment's ForeignInvestment Agency revealed that as of April 2015, the province hadattracted 80 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capitalof more than 7 billion USD. Further, in the past four months theprovince lured 114.1 million USD in FDI.

Chairman of theprovincial People's Committee Duong Ngoc Long said that his provincewould always create the most favourable conditions for investors, interm of investment licensing and ground clearance.

Regardingadministrative reforms, the province has enacted 20 mechanisms andpolicies to facilitate investment, notably the application of the"one-stop" shop mechanism in completing administrative requirements.

Regulardialogues between businesses, provincial officials and bankers to easedifficulties for businesses have also been ongoing. As a result, manyinvestors have received preferential loans from commercial banks andbenefited from tax policies, according to Long.-VNA
