Thailand is a good friend and an important strategic partner of Vietnam in Southeast Asia, Tran Thanh Trung, the diplomat in charge of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Thailand’s Khon Kaen province, said at a ceremony on September 26 to mark Vietnam's 79th National Day (September 2, 1945-2024).

Bangkok (VNA)💦 – Thailand is a good friend and an important strategic partner of Vietnam in Southeast Asia, Tran Thanh Trung, the diplomat in charge of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Thailand’s Khon Kaen province, said at a ceremony on September 26 to mark Vietnam's 79th National Day (September 2, 1945-2024).
Thailand is the first ASEAN country to establish a strategic partnership with Vietnam and is also the only country with which Vietnam has a joint Government meeting mechanism, Trung said.
He highlighted the bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation with remarkable results, becoming a bright spot in their bilateral relations. Thailand is the largest trade partner and the 9th largest investor out of 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with a total registered capital of nearly 14 billion USD, he said.
Their cooperation in culture, tourism, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges have also developed strongly, contributing to enhancing understanding between the two countries.
The 100,000-strong Vietnamese community in Thailand have receives support from the Thai Government, actively contributing to the development of the host country.
The diplomat thanked the Thai Royal Family, the Government and people of Thailand for always supporting Vietnam and the Vietnam-Thailand relations.
Speaking at the celebration, Vice Governor of Khon Kaen Province Jirasak Seehamat also highlighted the long-standing Thailand-Vietnam relationship and close ties between the peoples of the two countries.
He said that Khon Kaen is currently one of the localities in Thailand with a large number of Thais of Vietnamese origin.
He added that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen has facilitated the cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Thai northeastern localities and Vietnamese ones./.
