Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The Prime Minister, Gen. PrayutChan-o-cha, has expressed his satisfaction with the Global Innovation Index2018, released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), sayingthe position of Thailand has improved because the country has a potential toproduce creative products.
According to the Global Innovation Index 2018, Thailand is ranked 44th out of126 countries. The country was ranked 51st last year.
Gen. Prayut said Thailand is also categorised as leaders in many aspects, suchas the export of creative products at the sixth, the export of advancedtechnology products at the eighth, and the registration of petty patient at theeventh. The report also states that Thailand is one of the 20 countries withhigh capacities in innovation development.
The Prime Minister said the government has been giving priority on thedevelopment of necessary infrastructure for the development of innovations andadvanced technology, promoting and protecting the use of intellectual propertyin commercial purposes with prevention measures against infringement, providingmore budgets for research and development, as well as integrating cooperationbetween government agencies, private firms, and educational institutes.
Gen. Prayut stressed the necessity for Thai people to learn about innovationdevelopment using sciences, technology, and creativity according to the marketdemands in order to deliver products and services that meet the needs ofcustomers. He said researchers should focus on measures to help low-incomepersons, such as the improvement of the farming system to yield fewer, butpricier harvests instead of focusing on maximising the quantity.-NNT/VNA
Vietnam is an outstanding economy in turning its investment for innovation into concrete results, according to the Global Innovation Index (GII) Report 2018 released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on July 10.
