Thanh Hoa (VNA) – Many mountainous districts in the central province of Thanh Hoa are investing heavily in infrastructure to promote socio-economic growth, thereby giving local residents conditions to develop livelihoods and escape from poverty.

Thanh Lam, a disadvantaged commune in Nhu Xuan district, used to face numerous difficulties in socio-economic development and poverty reduction due to its long distance from the district’s centre and unfavourable transport conditions.

Nguyen Van Vu, Chairman of the communal People’s Committee, said thanks to the Party and State’s attention, a number of welfare facilities have been built here since 2021 such as schools, health stations, roads, intra-field canals, and others serving people’s daily life and socio-economic development.

As a result, he noted, the commune has gained a facelift, the local living conditions have been improved, and people's trust in the Party and State’s policies increased.

This year, Thanh Lam will continue upgrading its junior high school, build the headquarters of the communal police force, and mobilise resources for renovating the bridge of Chao village and the road from this village to the commune’s centre.

Locals are very happy, and many have voluntarily donated land to help hasten site clearance for the projects to be carried out on schedule, Vu went on.

Also in Nhu Xuan district, a new road in Hoa Quy commune is being built with investment of 71 billion VND (nearly 2.8 million USD) during 2023 - 2025. When operational in 2025, the facilities will help ensure traffic safety when locals cross the Quyen River in the rainy season.

Nguyen Huu Tuat, Vice Chairman of the Nhu Xuan People’s Committee, said the district has been utilising every resource for building essential infrastructure in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, along with transport facilities connecting these areas with others. Thanks to this effort, it has attracted a number of businesses coming to make investments, thus helping create jobs, improve local living standards, and sustainably alleviate poverty.

In the time ahead, he noted, the administration of Nhu Xuan will enhance management of and speed up public investment projects. It will also promote the construction of technical infrastructure at the Bai Tranh, Thuong Ninh, and Xuan Hoa industrial clusters and ensure security and order to create a favourable environment for businesses.

In Nhu Thanh – another mountainous district, 42 essential infrastructure facilities are being built during 2021 - 2025 in ethnic minority areas. The construction is funded by the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2021 - 2030 period.

Chairman of the Nhu Thanh People’s Committee Dang Tien Dung said developing essential infrastructure in particularly disadvantaged areas is critical to improving people’s material and spiritual lives.

This year, the district is determined to address shortcomings, combine capital sources of different programmes, and maximise resources in order to build more infrastructure, he added.
