Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – Authorities in the central prꦬovince of Thua Thien-Hue verified the saܫfety level of seawater near the shore on May 6 following a recent test.

The test was run on samples of seawater collected near beaches – Lang Co, Canh Duong, Thuan An, Vinh Thanh, Quang Ngan and Dien Loc, four river mouths, and two locations providing water for aquatic farms in Phong Hai, Dien Huong, Dien Mon and Minh Vy communes, on May 4. The results proved that all samples are safe for human activities, fishery production, and aquatic conservation.
Earlier, on May 2 and 3, the province saw mass deaths of fish farms on Tam Giang coastal lagoon. According to Hoang Ngoc Khanh, Chief of the provincial People’s Committee Office, the cause of the fish deaths remains unknown. The incident took place as heavy rain fell, thus the fish might have been killed by a lack of oxygen, he noted, adding that only big fish in the pens died.
Fish of smaller sizes or swimming outside the pens survived, he said. The province has collected fish and water samples from the sites for testing. A temporary solution to the issue is discharging 15 million cubic metres of water from the Huong river to the lagoon in a bid to reduce salinity.-VNA
