Hue (VNA)🅠 - The central city of Hue has officially opened the Thuan An Fishing Port as a class-II facility, boosting the local seafood industry and promoting sustainable growth.

As a key fisheries logistics hub in central Vietnam, it will support fishing vessels from neighbouring cities and provinces. The second docking area of Thuan An Fishing Port features a 370m-long wharf, a channel depth of -3.4m, and a channel width of 60m. It has a minimum cargo handling capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year, and is capable of simultaneously accommodating 500 fishing vessels of at least six metres in length for docking and storm shelter.
The port’s official operation also meets the European Commission (EC) standards for fishing port management, contributing to Vietnam’s efforts to lift the current illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU) yellow card warning. The Fisheries Infrastructure Construction and Upgrading Project in Thua Thien-Hue province (now Hue City) began in 2019, comprising three sub-projects with a total investment of 400 billion VND (15.8 million USD).
Key investment components of the Thuan An Fishing Port construction include docking berths, roads, breakwaters, mooring buoy systems, an operations centre, a fish sorting facility, technical infrastructure, a freshwater supply system, and wastewater treatment. The old Thuan An Fishing Port, built over a decade ago, has become overcrowded due to the rapid increase in the number of local fishing vessels. Director of the Hue Fishing Port Management Board Tran Quang Nhat expected the newly planned functional areas will soon attract businesses to invest in fisheries logistics services such as fuel supply, freshwater provision, fish sorting and freezing facilities, and service stalls. These not only support fishing operation but also provide tourists with an opportunity to experience the daily lives of coastal and lagoon fishermen in Hue City./.
