Top Vietnamese leader seeks stronger relations with Laos

Vientiane (VNA) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) CentralCommittee and President Nguyen Phu Trong has suggested Vietnam and Laos to furtherpromote their special relationship and comprehensive cooperation as the twocountries are entering the key period of reform.

The Vietnamese leadermade the suggestion while meeting with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith andChairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) of Laos Pany Yathotou on February 24as part of his official friendly visit to the country.

At the meetings, hespoke highly of the roles played by the Vietnamese and Lao Governments and NAsin the bilateral relationship.

The cooperation betweenthe two governments is very crucial, the leader said, noting his hope that theywill continue to instruct agencies to effectively implement high-levelagreements reached by the two countries.

He also urged thelegislative agencies to better their roles in institutionalizing policies andresolutions of the CPV and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), andsupervising the implementation of agreements.

Informing the hostsabout outcomes of his earlier talks with General Secretary of the LPRP CentralCommittee and President Bounnhang Vorachith, the Vietnamese leader said in anycircumstance, the two Parties and countries should unite with each other and dotheir best to advance the bilateral relationship and pass it down to nextgenerations.

PM Thongloun Sisoulithand NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou once again congratulated Nguyen Phu Trong onhis election as President of Vietnam, and affirmed that Laos will always makeall-out efforts to preserve and promote the great friendship and specialsolidarity between the two countries.

Sharing the Vietnameseleader’s suggestion of expanding cooperative ties and improving the efficiency ofcooperation in all spheres, they pledged to closely coordinate with Vietnam inorder to raise the quality of collaboration between ministries, agencies andlocalities, and effectively realise high-level agreements, especially those oneconomy, trade and investment.

The promised to removeobstacles facing businesses of the two countries, aiming to make economic linksmatch with the Vietnam-Laos special relationship.

PM Thongloun Sisoulith stressed that Laos encourages and creates optimalconditions for major Vietnamese firms to invest in the country, especially inenergy and transport, to bring about practical benefits to both sides.

He also committed toinstructing agencies to join hands with Vietnam in national defence andsecurity, regularly exchange information and provide timely support to eachother in regional and international issues.

Laos will also closelycoordinate with Cambodia to successfully implement the agreement on thedevelopment triangle reached by the prime ministers of the three countries, hesaid.

The Lao PM highlightedpartnerships in using the Mekong River water resources, as well aseducation-training and human resources development.-VNA
