Toyota to enhance domestic auto supporting industry

Toyota Motor Vietnam and the Industry Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a project to enhance domestic enterprises' supporting industry.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Toyota Motor Vietnam and the Industry Agency under the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade have signed a Memorandum of Understanding fora project to enhance domestic enterprises' supporting industry.

According toToyota, the project is implemented to strengthen the capability and cooperationbetween domestic enterprises and automakers from 2022 to 2023.

It is thethird year Toyota Vietnam and the agency have worked on theproject, demonstrating the firm's efforts to increase thelocalisation rate, support Vietnamese suppliers, and a commitment toaccompany the development of the Vietnamese automobile and supporting industry.

The projectincludes screening manufacturing enterprises and making a list ofpotential suppliers of automotive parts and components to connect withautomobile assemblers and manufacturers in the country,organising field visits at the Toyota Vietnam factory and Toyota'sdomestic suppliers, and support for participation in training underseveral Vietnamese suppliers development programmes.

In 2022, theywill conduct a new activity called the "operational Kaizensupport" program for some enterprises, which Toyota will support bysending experts to periodically work at the enterprise, thereby helping toimprove operational efficiency.

Toyota Vietnampresident Ueda Hiroyuki said: “Through activitiesin the project, Toyota Vietnam hopesto further contribute to improve suppliers’capability and expand Vietnamese supplier network as wellas contribute to the development of the Vietnam Automobile SupportingIndustry."

After twoyears of implementing the project, Toyota Vietnam has recruitedone supplier and is selecting six potential suppliers.

It has alsoorganised training courses on improving work efficiency for 45 suppliersand conducted visits to Toyota suppliers and seminars to share practicalexperiences in supplier development and Toyota's recruitment criteria./.
