Tra fish exports likely to hit 2.1 billion USD this year
The export turnover of tra fish is forecast to hit 2.1 billion USD in 2018, up 22 percent against the previous year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hanoi (VNA) – The exportturnover of tra fish is forecast to hit 2.1 billion USD in 2018, up 22 percent againstthe previous year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment.
Tra fish exports are expected to continue toincrease in the last few months of the year.
The ministry said the price of raw tra fish in the Mekong Delta region was atbetween 35,000-36,000 VND (1.49-1.53 USD) per kg.
With this price, tra fish farmers can earn profits of between 6,000-9,000 VNDper kg.
Tra processing enterprises are now purchasing rawmaterials to process export products amid a higher demand on global markets bythe end of 2018.
However, they have faced a shortage of rawmaterial for export processing because many farmers have stopped tra productionas they lack young fish, the ministry said.
The ministry called on localities to re-plantheir production entirely, encourage the application of science and technology,diversify export products and markets, and give priority to value-addedproducts. –VNA
Vietnam’s Tra fish export value is expected to reach a record 2 billion USD this year. However, many other nations are producing tra fish, including Vietnam’s major import markets.
Vietnam’s export value to the US reached 4.89 billion USD in August, the highest level since January this year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Vietnam earned about 29.54 billion USD from agro-forestry-fishery exports between January and September, up 9.3 percent from the same period of 2017 and equivalent to 73 percent of this year’s target.
Seafood export value in the first nine month of the year was estimated at 6.4 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 7.2 percent, according to the Department of Farm Produce Processing and Market Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
