Transport sector targets 8-9 percent growth in 2018

The transport sector aims to transport 8-9 percent more passengers and cargo this year compared to 2018, heard a conference in Hanoi on January 11.

Hanoi (VNA) - The transportsector aims to transport 8-9 percent more passengers and cargo this year comparedto 2018, heard a conference in Hanoi on January 11.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong, the sector also aimsto complete its public investment plan in the year with total estimateddisbursement of nearly 29 trillion VND.

Additionally, more efforts will be made to minimise the number of traffic accidents,deaths and injuries by between 5-10 percent compared to 2018; and reducetraffic jams in big cities.

Dong said the ministry has devised various solutions to realise the targets,including completing and submitting to the Government a proposal on revisionsto the Law on Road Traffic,and the assessment of the enforcement of the Law onVietnam Civil Aviation.

It will focus on finalizing a project to restructure transport and enhanceconnectivity among different means of transport, increase the use of technologyin managing transport and implement an action plan to improve thecompetitiveness of logistics services.

Meetings and dialogues with transport enterprises and cooperatives will be held,while the ministry will also devise measures to settle difficulties facingenterprises in the field.

Attention will be paid to the disbursement of capital for national keytransport projects, and accelerating the implementation of urban railway, expresswayand airport projects, especially the Long Thanh airport and the expansion ofTan Son Nhat airport in the southern region.

More efforts will be employed to handle problems in the process of collectingfees for build-operate-transfer (BOT) projects and speed up the implementationof non-stop automatic toll collection systems.-VNA
