Truong Sa voters hopeful about to-be-elected deputies

Quang Nam (VNA) – Voters in Truong Sa island district, the central province of Khanh Hoa, are ant🔯icipating the election of deputies to the 14 th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for 2016-2021 which will be held on May 15 in the locality, a week ahead of the national schedule.
Nguyen Huy Hoang, a young soldier on Nam Yet island, Sinh Ton commune, who will go to the poll for the first time, said he will thoroughly study biographies of approved candidates in order to elect the most prominent ones to the 14 th legislature and People’s Councils at all levels.
He expressed his hope that the winners will work for the voters at all-level parliamentary forums, expecting them to pay more heed to learning and working conditions of officers and soldiers on islands, including Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
Hoang’s view was shared by Pham Duy Huong, a commissar on Nam Yet island, who also expected that the 14 th NA’s deputies will further carry forward democracy to make qualitative life-based legal documents.
He hoped that the next legislature will step up the national comprehensive reform in the context that Vietnam is intensively integrating into the world, while maintaining national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Monk Thich Nguyen Ngoc, who heads Nam Huyen pagoda on Nam Yet island, delivered his belief in the success of the upcoming general election.
“I hope that the 14 th NA will continue to discuss and issue more comprehensive and effective legal documents to help fishermen set sail in Vietnam’s traditional Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa fishing grounds,” he said.
Maritime economic development should be combined with environmental protection and climate change response, the monk suggested.
Truong Sa district has organised six voting units and 24 polling stations, with three units and 21 polling stations on the islands.
Constituents in Truong Sa district will select 30 out of 48 candidates to become deputies to the district People’s Council for the 2016 – 2021 tenure.
