Tuna exports predicted to flourish in 2019

Vietnam’s tuna exports are expected to thrive in 2019 as several obstacles regarding origin certification have been removed, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s tunaexports are expected to thrive in 2019 as severalobstacles regarding origin certification have been removed, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers(VASEP).

The country’s tuna export turnover in2018 increased 10 percent against theprevious year, hitting 653 million USD, according to the association.

Tuna exportsto the US in December 2018 reached 21 million USD, up 33 percent compared tothe same period of 2017, helping total export value of the product last year to expand1.7 percent year-on-year.

Spain was the largest EU importer of Vietnamese tuna in the year with totalimport value of 30 million USD, followed by the Netherlands with 25 millionUSD.-VNA
