HCM City (VNA) – The Transport Department of HoChi Minh City has proposed building two more bridges to enhance transportconnectivity between the southern economic hub and its neighbour Dong Naiprovince.

The bridges include Phu My 2 that links the southern part ofHCM City with Dong Nai’s Nhon Trach district; and Dong Nai 2, connecting ThuDuc city in HCM City with Long Thanh district in Dong Nai.

According to the Road Network Development Plan for2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, there will be five bridges across a 40-kilometerriver section between the two localities, namely Dong Nai, Long Thanh, NhonTrach, Cat Lai and Phuoc Khanh, across a 40-kilometer section of the river.

Of them, only two bridges, Dong Nai and Long Thanh, have been opened to trafficwhile Nhon Trach and Phuoc Khanh will not be completed until 2025 and work on CatLai bridge remains unknown given differences over where the bridge should belocated.

Therefore, Dong Nai and Long Thanh bridges now become overloaded.

The Dong Nai Department of Transport has coordinated with a consultant toreview the relevant plan and forecast the number of vehicle movements betweenDong Nai and HCM City.

Dong Nai, the eastern gateway of HCM City, is separated from the southerneconomic hub by rivers such as Dong Nai, Long Tau, Dong Tranh and Thi Vai.Therefore, bridges play an important role in connecting these two localities, especially when the Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province isput into operation./.
