UN Secretary-General extends congratulations to new President
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, to convey his congratulations to General To Lam on his election as the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has asked Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, to convey his congratulations to General To Lam on his election as the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
During his phone talks with Giang on May 23, Guterres expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the State and President Lam, Vietnamese people will reap more achievements across all spheres, particularly the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The Secretary-General affirmed that the UN will continue to be a reliable partner of Vietnam in its cause of national development.
Guterres also noted his hope to meet Lam in the time ahead to further promote the good relations between Vietnam and the UN, while appreciating the Southeast Asian nation’s remarkable socio-economic achievements as well as its contributions to the handling of global issues at UN forums.
On this occasion, the two sides compared notes on the international situation, newly-emerging issues at the UN, and solutions to raise the operational efficiency of the UN system./.
Newly-elected State President To Lam took oath of office on May 22, promising to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution and to do his best to well complete tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
The ministry has instructed Vietnamese representative agencies in Israel, Iran, as well as those in neighbouring countries, to closely monitor the situation and request local authorities to ensure absolute safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in high-risk areas.

Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang cleared up deputies' concern regarding how to spur socio-economic growth, renew traditional growth motives and establish new momentum for development.
Vietnam proposed several priorities: narrowing the digital divide, strengthening women’s leadership in the digital economy and AI governance, and mobilising sustainable financing for gender equality initiatives in line with each country’s national priorities and context.
