US businesses support Vietnam’s participation in TPP negotiations

Several major US companies have affirmed their support for Vietnam’s participation in TPP negotiations and committed to expand their operations and investment in the country.

This wasthe outcome of meetings between Vietnamese Ambassador to the US NguyenQuoc Cuong and leaders and businesses from the two US states ofKentucky and Ohio on April 10-12. The ambassador was joining hiscounterparts from other countries involved in the negotiations of thetrans-Pacific partnership (TPP) agreement, in a working trip arranged bythe US Business Coalition for TPP.

During thosemeetings, Ambassador Cuong affirmed Vietnam gives priority to and isresolved to accelerate TPP negotiations together with other countries,adding that it is an important step in the country’s policy on renewaland international integration.

The Vietnamesediplomat also called on US enterprises’ support to ensure that TPP willbe a well-balanced agreement meeting the diverse interests of all membercountries.

The leaderships of General Electric andProcter&Gamble told the ambassador that they have plans to expandoperations in Vietnam . Meanwhile, the United Parcels Service (UPS)representative said the company appreciated the Vietnamese government’spermission for UPS to establish a 100-percent foreign-owned companyin the country.

Within the framework of thetrip, Ambassador Cuong also granted interviews to three inter-state andregional radio stations of Dallas and Houston cities, Texas state, onTPP agreement and economic relations between Vietnam and the US.-VNA
