US-DPRK Summit: Chinese experts give positive assessments
Chinese pundits have made positive comments on the Hanoi summit between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), saying it was a necessary event that laid a foundation for more talks and progress in the future.

Beijing (VNA) – Chinese pundits have made positivecomments on the Hanoi summit between the US and the Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea (DPRK), saying it was a necessary event that laid afoundation for more talks and progress in the future.
Wang Junsheng, an international relationsspecialist at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the summit in Hanoiwas a transition agreement connecting the past and the future, adding that thesettlement of the nuclear issue in the Korean Peninsula not only tests thesincerity but also the wisdom of both sides.
Yang Xiyu, a researcher from the China Instituteof International Studies, noted the denuclearisation process in the KoreanPeninsula has experienced many turning points in the past, but it has neverstopped and will never stop because it matches the interests of all sides,including the DPRK.
Meanwhile, Wang Sheng, an international politicsprofessor at the Jilin University, said the outcome of this summit was “alittle surprising”. It showed the differences between the two sides in theirunderstanding of and steps in the denuclearisation process.
Commenting on the summit, spokesman of theChinese Foreign Ministry Lu Kang said the Korean Peninsula situation haswitnessed a big turning point and returned to the political settlement roadmapover the past year. This was tough to achieve and the result needs to betreasured, he said.
Lu also said China hopes the DPRK and the USwill continue the dialogue, show sincerity and respect, accommodate eachother’s concerns, and promote denuclearisation and peace on the KoreanPeninsula.-VNA
