Van Don int’l airport to pilot biometric authentication for passengers

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has announced that passenger biometric authentication (facial recognition) will be piloted at check-in desks in Van Don international airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Hanoi (VNA) –The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV)has announced that passenger biometric authentication (facialrecognition) will be piloted at check-in desks in Van Don internationalairport in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The authority has asked the airport to take measures to prevent congestion and handle situations thatarise during the trial period. It also requested the airport to coordinatewith relevant agencies and businesses to evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot application regarding aviation security risks andconvenience for passengers, and submit monthlyreports to the CAAV.

Vietjet Air and Hanoi-based Noi Bai international airport’s aviation securitycentre will 🎀worked closely with Van Don internationalairport and related partners in this scheme.

Previously, the CAAV has proposed to the Ministry of Transport on extending the pilotingperiod of biometric authentication at airports nationwide. It reported that the trial application of facialrecognition technology at Cat Bi international airport in the northerncity of Hai Phong has not clearly demonstrated its advantages anddisadvantages.

The high-tech method aims to contribute to ensuring socialorder and security, reduce time for check-in procedures, and increase accuracy.Facial recognition technology 💮can also improve the prevention and detection ofpassengers using fake documents, and detect those who are banned from flying orwanted criminals t🅷hat cross borders./.
