Veggie, fruit exports reach 1.77 billion USD during Jan-May

Vietnam’s export turnover of fruits and vegetables hit 1.77 billion USD in the first five months of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 18 percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s export turnover of fruits and vegetables hit 1.77billion USD in the first five months of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 18percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In May alone, fruit and vegetable exports raked in 400 million USD, asurge of 48.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

China currently remained the top importer of fruitsand vegetables from Vietnam. These products are also witnessing positive signs in other majormarkets such as the US, Japan, Russia, and Australia.

To boost the export of fruits and vegetables, the ministry assignedthe Director of the Plant Protection Department to negotiate to open 19 marketsfor 20 types of products, assist in handling, negotiating and removingtechnical difficulties arising in the export process, coordinate with localitiesto build codes for growing areas and export establishments to ensure traceabilityand meet requirements of major importers./.
