Sydney(VNA) – Agricultural cooperation opportunities, particularly increasing joint-ventureinvestments between Vietnam and Australia are absolutely huge, Assistant Minister for Agricultureand Water Resources Anne Ruston told Fairfax Agricultural Media onAugust 28.
The AustralianCentre for International Agricultural Research has invested nearly 100 millionAUD in over 170 collaborative research projects in Vietnam, ranging fromlivestock production to policy development, food safety, fisheries andforestry, she said.
Vietnam is reallyopen to Australia in agricultural investment, she underscored.
Australian andVietnamese two-way farm trade is currently worth 2.8 billion AUD withAustralian agricultural exports to the growing market valued at about 1.5billion AUD in 2016-2017, comprising 712 million AUD in grains, oilseedsand pulses and 242 million AUD in feeder and slaughter cattle exports.
She expressed herdelight at her trip in coincidence with the agreement between the two nationson shipping Australian cherries to Vietnam and Vietnamese dragon fruits toAustralia.
During her Vietnamvisit, Ruston also attended the opening of the Thanh Nhan Abattoir in line withAustralian standards. She described the facility as a “genuine example” ofAustralia’s commitment to mutual prosperity and the best possible outcomes,across the entire supply chain.-VNA
