Vietnam Airlines among top 4 SEA carriers with high throughput

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines was ranked among top four Southeast Asian airlines with passenger throughput exceeding 20 million people last year.

Hanoi (VNA) – The national flag carrier VietnamAirlines was ranked among top four Southeast Asian airlines with passengerthroughput exceeding 20 million people last year.

According to statistics from the Centre for Asia PacificAviation (CAPA), the airline transported 20.6 million passengers in 2016, anannual increase of 19 percent.

The other three carriers on the list were Malaysia’s AirAsia, Indonesia’s Lion Air and Garuda Indonesia.

In January 2017, readers and audiences of the Sai Gon GiaiPhong newspaper and Ho Chi Minh Television voted Vietnam Airlines as a “GoldenBrand Name” and “most favourite carrier” respectively.

During the period, it was also voted among top tensuccessful ASEAN firms in China by the China-ASEAN Business Council.

In 2016, the national flag carrier won the awards “Asia'sLeading Airline (Economy Class)” and “Asia's Cultural Airline” at the WorldTravel Awards.-VNA
