Vietnam Airlines holds shareholders’ meeting in 2017

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Airlines held its annualshareholders’ meeting in Hanoi on June 20, reporting robust growth in itsbusiness performance in 2016 and detailing plans for 2017.

The national flag carrier described 2016 business growth asits best-ever achievement, informing shareholders that it operated nearly140,000 safe flights, carrying more than 20.6 million passengers, respectivelyincreasing by 13 percent and 21 percent, in 2016.

The firm earned over 2.6 trillion VND (114.4million USD) in pre-tax profit, up 1.5 times from the previous year.

The post-tax profit allocated to VietnamAirlines is nearly 1.74 trillion VND (76.56 million USD), 736.52 billion VND(32.4 million USD) of which will be given to shareholders as dividend payments. 

While labour productivity continued to grow in2016, the carrier’s employees benefited from higher salaries, up 4.7 – 12.8percent from a year before, Vietnam Airlines noted.

At the meeting, participants also approved aplan to offer an additional more than 191 million shares at 10,000 VND each forcurrent shareholders.

This offering is expected to bring about over1.91 trillion VND (84 million USD) for Vietnam Airlines to cover the purchase ofBoeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900 XWB airplanes and other business activities.

In 2017, the company aims to serve more than22.5 million passengers and gain 87.9 trillion VND (nearly 3.87 billion USD) inconsolidated revenue.-VNA
