Vietnam would like Japan’s Supreme Court and the Ministry of Justice tocontinue helping upgrade its legal system in terms of civil, economicand procedural laws, as well as personnel training.
Deputy PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the request at his meeting with TakesakiHironobu, the Chief Justice of Japan’s Supreme Court, in Tokyo onJuly 4.
After amending and supplementing the 1982 Constitution,the Vietnamese National Assembly will focus on improving the way itcarries out judicial and legal procedures, said the Deputy PM.
Hehighlighted the support and cooperation that Japan’s Supreme Courthas provided for Vietnam , through the Japan InternationalCooperation Agency (JICA) over the past 15 years. He stated that theyhave helped to raise the capacity of Vietnam’s courts in manydifferent ways, in line with the country’s need for legal reforms.
TheJapanese Chief Justice said he is keen to share Japan’s expertiseand work with his Vietnamese colleagues in a long-term, effective andsubstantial manner.
He added that that the meeting with theDeputy PM will be an opportunity to discuss the training of judges andcourt officials to adequate standards.
Also on the same day,Deputy PM Phuc met with Japan’s Minister of Justice Taki Makoto wherehe expressed his pleasure at the recent rapid, in-depth development inVietnam and Japan’s strategic partnership.
He hailed theefforts made by the senior specialists and advisors from Japan’sMinistry of Justice in helping Vietnam draw up and improve drafts oncivil, economic and procedural laws, such as the civil code, the civilprocedural law, the administrative procedural law, the law on Statecompensation liability and the law on the execution of civil judgments.
Headded that Vietnam would also like the judicial agencies from bothcountries to step up cooperation on judicial assistance in civil,commercial and criminal affairs, due to the rising level of civil andcommercial transactions between the two countries.-VNA
